Land of Smile 2013

It has been a short yet worthy weekend trip to Bangkok, where I fell in love with the kindness and politeness of Thais. I also fell in love with Mango Sticky Rice, and the culture in there. It is however, too short a trip and I believe there's so much more I ought to explore. :)

Day 2 - Bangkok - Kanachanburi

Visited Kanachanburi's famous Death Railway during the second day in Bangkok to escape from the city and to have a taste of train journey. The train was scheduled to leave at 750am at Thonburi of Bangkok and we did reach in time for the train.

We were asked to alight at a secluded station and in this station, we could never make our way to Kanachanburi without the help of the locals especially with the language barrier. This station is located in a village and while waiting for the train, we walked around the village and chanced upon the rare weaved grasshoppers. :)

After reaching Kanachanaburi, we immersed ourselves in their weekend flea market before heading to the Death Railway, it's amazing how things remains the same and yet different from what I remembered it to be. It's a funny feeling but I'm alright with it. :)

Had a feast there before heading back to Bangkok, which we reached in about 3 hours in a private van. It's a great rural city and i really hope i get the chance to visit this place again. :)

Day 3 - Chantuchak and Dinner on a Cruise

Chantuchak has always been on my list when I came to Bangkok, and this time round, surprisingly, I brought a lot of things from there because they were really unique and affordable, unlike the expensive Chatuchak I remembered it to be. It was also the first time I got myself immersed in Chantuchak for almost half the day with no plans of leaving but had to because of the dinner on a cruise in the night.

The dinner was another experience, it was the time where it reminds me of the cruise along the Bund in Shanghai. The dinner also reminds me of how life can be unfair, that locals are working hard just to please young foreigners like me, and how i wish I could do something for them. It got me going to the street nearby my hotel to get a simple dinner for a homeless local after returning to the hotel.

Day 4 - Platinum Mall

Headed off to Platinum Mall and had such a hard time locating the Platinum Market, which i did it anyway. :) We traverse through dark alleys and dead ends, and eventually emerge at the Platinum Market. Despite visiting the Platinum Market the second time, it feels like it's the first time.
